Abstract
This participatory action research study that collects both quantitative and qualitative data based on specified issues. The purpose is to study the state of active aging and propose guidelines for promoting active aging among the older adults based on the new normal in Chiang Rai Province. A total of 450 elderly individuals participated in the study, conducted from December 2024 to March 2025. The tools used for data collection included: Personal information questionnaire Activities of daily living assessment (10 items), Aging perception scale (12 items), Attitudes toward aging scale (15 items), Social support scale (10 items), Successful aging scale (10 items), Healthy aging scale (10 items) and Active aging potential scale (20 items) In addition, qualitative data on the state of active aging potential among the elderly was also studied. The questionnaires were validated by three experts for content validity, with a consistency index ranging from 0.66 to 1.00. Reliability testing was also conducted, yielding the following results:Attitude toward aging: reliability coefficient = 0.798, Social support questionnaire: reliability coefficient = 0.789, Successful aging questionnaire: reliability coefficient = 0.886, Healthy aging questionnaire: reliability coefficient = 0.758, Active aging potential questionnaire: reliability coefficient = 0.816. The research was conducted in two phases: Phase 1: Study of active aging based on the new normal in Chiang Rai Province. The analysis results were as follows: Most of the sample were female (265 individuals or 58.90%). The majority were in the early old-age range (60–69 years), totaling 275 individuals (61.10%). 423 participants (94.00%) were fully independent and socially active. The average attitude toward aging was at a moderate level (Mean = 3.12, S.D. = 0.846). The average level of social support was high (Mean = 3.73, S.D. = 0.774). The average level of successful aging was good (Mean = 3.49, S.D. = 0.737). The average level of healthy aging was good (Mean = 3.51, S.D. = 0.754). The overall level of active aging potential was good (Mean = 4.20, S.D. = 1.271). Qualitative data revealed that participants recognized the elements of active aging potential, particularly maintaining good health through proper self-care. This was motivated by the desire to remain healthy and independent from their children. Although many still needed to work for income, they expressed satisfaction with their current lives. It was also found that most participants actively participated in community activities, especially religious events, and did so willingly. Phase 2: Proposed guidelines to enhance active aging potential based on the new way of life in Chiang Rai Province. These guidelines were developed by studying the context of problems and needs in various aspects, including: Physical, Mental, Health behavior, Environmental, Social and Economic Conclusion: The results of this study can be used to plan and develop strategies for enhancing the active aging potential of the elderly to achieve sustainable and continuous good health.
